I paid £99 for 2 nights including breakfast at the Royal Exeter Hotel. Location is excellent 5 minutes from beach and 10 minutes from town. Lift took me to my room on the third floor. The hallways and staircase are actually quite lovely with red carpet and the staircase is quite grand and looks like mahogany to me really pretty. Very spacious hallways. My room was called superior single but the bed looked like small double. Beautiful view from the room across to the sea. There was a small ingenious tray fixed to the wall with the tea making facilities on. The electric is in the wall built into the tray a marvellous space saving idea! Bed very comfy. Very quiet. Two heaters one in room and heated towel rail in the en-suite. The en-suite was very spacious and the shower was phenomenal!! Super Strong like a power shower. Probably the best shower I have had in any hotel any where in the world! Because even in higher end hotels the shower is often pithy. Some people might moan and say that a few areas around the bathroom could do with re grouting and room furniture a bit dated but did I care?…..no not one bit because at £99 for 2 nights and phenomenal shower I’m happy!! Coming back to the hotel on the Friday evening the function room downstairs had some sort of disco going on which obviously was quite loud. By the time that I got to my room on third floor I couldn’t hear a thing. If noise is an issue ear plugs are a good idea but as I say I didn’t need mine. Perhaps if noise from there would be an issue for you ask to be put as far away as possible because it is a big hotel. Breakfast in the morning was in the same room as the function room which is good because the seats are comfortable velour! I am not a drinker but I did notice a very long impressively stocked bar!!! Breakfast staff were excellent!! Very helpful and pleasant and nothing too much trouble. Lovely pot of tea and good selection of continental stuff and orange juice. All in all a great stay!!!

I love staying at the hotel and I was very happy with my room, it was lovely & great part of the hotel. I would love to be a loyal/regular customer & come back again, it is a hotel I've enjoyed coming to. I loved my nights at Bar So, it is a excellent venue, I love the fact that the staff always make me feel welcome & appreciate my presence. Charlie whose part of the management team at Bar So has been amazing & he looks after me at Bar So & become a very good friend & great person, as much he is always professional, also very chilled & fun & I've thoroughly enjoyed my friendship with him it has been one I've enjoyed enormously & I have a lot of respect for him, he is amazing. I love my experience at both the hotel/bar so, I cant put it into words how much I love coming. I see some amazing people there such as Hakim, Charlie, Alice, I adore/love them all. Alice is a very cool, beautiful & lovely girl & she is a star at Bar So, she is the queen of the venue & a good friend. I highly recommend the Royal Exeter Hotel/Bar So.

The central location was brilliant. We could easily walk to the Pavilion theatre, the restaurants, the pier and the gardens. The car park fee was very reasonable. The interior of the Hotel was great as there was the very historic and traditional staircase which reminded us of being in an old National Trust house but the modern bar area and large seating areas that became the 1812 nightclub on the Saturday night was fantastic. The band and the disco were great. The staff were all extremely helpful and friendly. The breakfast was great. The bedroom with ensuite was very large, clean and comfortable. We'll definitely stay there again.

Traditional English seaside hotel conveniently located between beach and town centre. My room seemed recently redecorated and bathroom fittings pristine, except for aluminium shower cubicle frame which has seen better days. Towels looked brand new, also the bed linen. Mattress was very comfortable. The TV had loads of channels and remote control worked the TV from the far side of the room. The room key worked with ease every single time, and I never needed help to open or lock the door. Breakfast was served by cheerful staff and traditional options for cooked breakfast which always arrived freshly prepared on a hot plate.

The building is great, the facilities are a tiny bit outdated and there is wear and tear occasionally however it didn't detract from the modern/period style of the property. The staff were friendly and welcoming and we felt quite comfortable. Plus it was very good access to the town and the sea with just perhaps 5 minutes walk. The only gripe we had was that, because we were staying at the weekend, the two club style bars were exceptionally rowdy and kept us awake until almost 5am. But that is likely due to the position of the room (right above the courtyard) and the time of the week. And they did warn us!
